Dog Christmas Advent Calendar: 24 Days of Real Meat Treats for Dogs
Most dog advent calendars are full of biscuits, fillers, and chicken. Ours isn't. The Shades of Gray Dog Christmas Advent Calendar gives your dog 24 days of surprises, with a real treat behind every door: six of our favourites made from rabbit, elk, venison, beaver, and bison, in a mix of textures your dog will look forward to every morning.
Every calendar is made by hand at our facility on Alderville First Nation using federally inspected meat. No chicken, no beef, no grain, no fillers, and nothing you can't pronounce. Just a little holiday excitement your dog can actually feel good about.
Sound Familiar?
- "My dog has allergies, so store advent calendars are off the table." Ours has no chicken, no beef, and no grain. 20 of the 24 treats are single-ingredient meat, and the other 4 are our grain-free Waboose biscuits with just three ingredients.
- "I read the ingredients on most calendars and put them back." Here's the whole list for the entire box: rabbit, elk, venison, beaver, bison, organic chickpea flour, and apple cider vinegar.
- "I want to try new proteins, but I don't want to buy five full bags." The calendar lets your dog taste all five in small amounts, so you'll know their favourite by Christmas.
- "I need a gift for someone whose dog has everything." A countdown of real meat treats is a gift the dog and the owner will both enjoy for 24 days.

Feeding Instructions
Open one door each day from December 1 to December 24 and give your dog the treat inside. Treats can be broken into smaller pieces for small dogs or puppies. Freeze-dried liver is rich, so break it up for little dogs. As with any new treat, introduce slowly, supervise your dog, and make sure fresh water is available.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. The treats are shelf-stable. Keep the calendar out of your dog's reach until it's time to open a door, because they will figure out what's inside.
Guaranteed Analysis
Guaranteed analysis varies by treat. See each treat's product page, linked above, for full details.
Dog Christmas Advent Calendar FAQ
Q: Is there a dog advent calendar without chicken, grain, or fillers?
A: Yes, this one. There's no chicken, beef, grain, or fillers in the box. 20 of the 24 treats are single-ingredient meat, and the other 4 are our grain-free Waboose rabbit biscuits, made with just rabbit, organic chickpea flour, and apple cider vinegar.
Q: What's inside the Dog Christmas Advent Calendar?
A: Six treats, four doors each: Elk Rolls, Beaver Rolls, Venison Strips, Freeze-Dried Bison Liver, Freeze-Dried Rabbit, and Waboose Rabbit Biscuits.
Q: How big are the treats?
A: The calendar holds 285 g of treats across 24 doors, so each day is a small daily surprise, not a meal. For large dogs, many owners pair the calendar with a full bag of their dog's favourite.
Q: Is the advent calendar suitable for dogs with allergies?
A: There's no chicken, beef, or grain inside, and all five proteins are novel proteins that many sensitive dogs do well with. Because the calendar includes five proteins plus chickpea flour in the Waboose biscuits, it may not suit dogs on a strict elimination diet or with a known allergy to any of these. In that case, one of our single-protein treats is a better choice.
Q: Is it safe for small dogs and puppies?
A: Yes. Treats break easily into smaller pieces for small breeds and puppies. Introduce new treats slowly and supervise your dog while they enjoy them.
Q: Are the treats raw or cooked?
A: None are raw. The rolls and strips are gently dehydrated, and the bison liver and rabbit are freeze-dried. Both methods keep natural nutrients while making the treats shelf-stable.
Q: When will my calendar ship?
A: Calendars ship between November 15 and 30 so they arrive fresh for December 1. Quantities are limited, so we recommend ordering early.
Q: Can I order an advent calendar as a gift?
A: Absolutely. It's one of the easiest gifts for any dog lover, whether that's family, a friend, your dog walker, or your groomer. Order a few and add a treat bag to reach free shipping over $100.
Q: Is there a cat version?
A: Yes. Our Cat Christmas Advent Calendar has 24 days of single-ingredient treats made for cats, so every pet in the house gets a countdown.
Q: Where are Shades of Gray treats made?
A: All Shades of Gray treats are made in Canada by our Indigenous-owned family business, at our facility on Alderville First Nation using federally inspected meat. Our rabbit is raised on our own farm in Ontario, our beaver is ethically sourced in Ontario, and our elk, venison, and bison are farmed in Canada.
Great as always
Such a great calendar! My dog loves it. It’s has been a great way to sample the different treats to see if my dog would like the different kids. I’ll definitely be ordering some more pouches of his favourites!
I bought the dog advent calender and was truly disappointed by the treat sizes. I bought 5, 3 for small to medium and 2 for large sized dogs. The portions were even small for my 13lb dog. The packaging also is flimsy. The treats were all over the place with half of them not even in their slots. All the treats were dried out since the packing wasn't sealed. I've been eyeing this brand for a while and this is the first time I have purchased. I definitely won't buy again since the value is not there.
