A Surprise on Page 45

This month, I opened a package that left me speechless — inside was a book called SHE Means Business, a powerful compilation of stories from Indigenous women entrepreneurs across Turtle Island.
To my surprise (and total disbelief), there was my face on the cover.
And on page 45? My story.
This book is a collaboration of all the amazing women who took part in the NACCA Role Model Campaign several years ago. When I was first invited to be part of that campaign, I felt humbled just to stand among such inspiring leaders. I never imagined it would lead to this.
Reading through these stories — women who started businesses, supported their communities, walked through challenges with grace and courage — I felt such pride. To be included is an honour I’ll carry with me forever.
At Shades of Gray Indigenous Pet Treats, our journey started small — just Brian and I, raising rabbits and creating healthy, single-protein treats for pets. We’ve grown slowly, with intention, rooted in our values. This book reminded me of the heart behind it all: community, tradition, and the strength of Indigenous entrepreneurship.
If you come across SHE Means Business, I hope you’ll take a moment to read it. Start on page 45 if you’d like 😊
Thank you for walking this path with us.
